Winning Back Lapsed Solar Cleaning Plan Customers

Some of your best future customers are people who used to be on a plan. They know your crew, they know the work, and you already know their roof. Many of them did not leave because they were unhappy. They left because money was tight one season, or they thought they could skip a year, or nobody called when the plan slipped. A little effort brings a good number of them back.

Who Counts as Lapsed

Handling Solar Cleaning Plan Cancellations Without Burning the Bridge covered ending a plan well. Win-backs are what happens after. There are really two groups worth going after:

The second group is often bigger than owners expect, and easier to win back, because they never actually decided to leave.

Finding Them

You cannot win back customers you cannot find. In SolarCleaningBossPro, the client records, tags and reports are where to look:

Pull the list, check the notes, and remove anyone who moved away or asked not to be contacted. More on what to look at in Reports on Recurring Solar Cleaning Customers: What to Check Each Month.

Time It to the Season

Win-back messages land best when the customer is already thinking about dirty panels:

A message that matches what they can see out the window does half the selling.

What to Say

Keep it short, personal and easy to answer. Two-way texting from the office works well because replies come straight back:

Mentioning that you will be nearby is honest and useful. It makes the visit feel convenient instead of like a sales pitch. If the customer left over a service problem, acknowledge it and say what changed.

Keep in mind that texts use your monthly allowance (500, 1,000 or 2,000 segments sent and received on Start, Pro and Crew). Short messages go further, and email works as well.

Make Restarting Easy

When a customer replies yes, nothing should stand between them and a cleaning. Their address, panel details and access notes are still on file. Put a cleaning on a truck near their neighborhood, confirm the gate code is still right, and ask if they want to go back on a plan after this visit.

If they want the plan again, set the days between visits on the job and add the tag back. If they want to try one cleaning first, that is fine too; offer the plan again at the end of the visit, just as at a first job.

If the card on file expired, they can update it in the customer app.

Do Not Overdo It

One or two well-timed messages a year is plenty. A former customer who gets a text every month will block your number. Note each win-back attempt on the client so nobody on your team sends a second one the same week.

And accept no for an answer. A polite “no problem, we're here if you need us” keeps the door open for next year.

Keep track of which win-back messages work. Note on each client what was sent and whether they came back. After a season or two, you will know whether spring pollen texts beat after-storm texts in your area, and whether drifted customers respond better than cancelled ones. That tells you where to spend next year's effort.

Also remember that a win-back customer deserves a little extra care on the first visit back. Clean on time, take good photos and make the visit feel easy.

Your Easiest New Customers

Winning back a lapsed plan customer costs a text. Finding a brand-new one costs a lot more. For how plans, tags and texting fit together, see the recurring solar cleaning software page.
