Turning a One-Time Solar Cleaning Into a Twice-a-Year Plan
A one-time cleaning is a good job. A customer on a twice-a-year plan is a good business. Every plan customer is two cleanings a year you do not have to find, quote or chase, on a roof you already know, often for years. The quoting stage is the best time to set that up, because the customer is already thinking about their panels.
The Best Time to Ask
In Quoting Solar Panel Cleaning Over the Phone, the last question on the checklist was whether the customer wanted a one-time cleaning or a regular plan. That question is worth more than any add-on on the estimate. This article covers how to ask it, how to price the plan and how the plan runs afterward.
Why Plans Matter
Panels get dirty again. Dust, pollen, leaves, sap and bird droppings keep coming. For most homes, cleaning once is not a lasting fix. Plans help both sides:
- For the customer: they never have to remember to call. Panels get cleaned on a regular rhythm without any effort on their part.
- For you: predictable work, fewer quotes to send, and roofs you already know, with the panel details and access notes already on the job.
- For your routes: plan customers can be grouped by area and cleaned on the same pass each season.
How to Ask
Do not wait until after the first cleaning. Ask while quoting, and make the plan an easy choice:
- On the phone: “Most of our customers have us out twice a year, so they don't have to think about it. Want me to set that up, or just do a one-time cleaning for now?”
- On the estimate: describe the plan in the line or the notes, or send two versions, one-time and twice a year, and let the customer pick.
- On the sign-up form: list the twice-a-year plan right beside the one-time cleaning.
- After the first cleaning: if they said no, ask again when you send the before-and-after photos. The difference is easier to see then.
Keep the pitch practical. Dirty panels generally produce less power, and customers can compare their own production app before and after a cleaning. Do not promise a specific gain.
Pricing the Plan
Most companies price each plan visit with the same service list as a one-time cleaning, then decide whether to offer anything extra for committing to a plan. Common options:
- Same price per visit, plus convenience. The customer gets the scheduling taken care of. Simple and fair.
- A small plan discount per visit. A few dollars off each cleaning for being on the plan. Make it a visible line so the customer sees the saving.
- A perk instead of a discount. For example, the inspection included on plan visits.
- A first-time charge on the first visit only. If the panels have years of buildup, charge for that once, then the plan price takes over.
Whatever you choose, keep it consistent and on your service list so every plan is quoted the same way.
How Plans Run in SolarCleaningBossPro
Once the estimate is approved and becomes the scheduled job, set it as recurring by the minimum days between visits:
- 180 days for twice a year.
- 365 days for yearly.
- 90 days for quarterly, mostly used for commercial arrays.
The job comes due on the Waiting List on its own after each cleaning. The Waiting List is a live map and list, with pins colored by status: not due yet, due now, or overdue past a 7-day grace. You assign due cleanings to a truck and a day, and the panel details you entered once show on the tech's phone every visit. With the card on file, completing the job creates the invoice and can charge the card.
Keeping Plan Customers Happy
Plan customers stay when the service runs without them noticing:
- Reminders the night before, plus texts when they are next and when the tech arrives, depending on the alerts they choose.
- Before-and-after photos so they see the work, even when they are not home.
- Easy card updates and invoices in the customer app.
- A quick text if weather pushes a visit, with the new day.
For customers unsure about twice a year, a yearly plan is still a great outcome, which is covered in Yearly or Twice a Year: Presenting Both Options on a Solar Cleaning Quote. To see how estimates turn into recurring plans, visit the solar cleaning estimate software page.
