How to Choose Solar Panel Cleaning Software for Your Company
Every software company says its product is easy, affordable and built for you. That makes choosing hard. The way through is to ignore the adjectives and test the software against how your solar cleaning company actually runs. Here is what to look at, in order of how much it will matter a year from now.
Price Is Only One Part
What Solar Panel Cleaning Software Costs: The $59, $89 and $199 Plans covered the cost side. Price matters, but software that is cheap and does not fit is the expensive choice: you end up back on spreadsheets and texts, paying for both. Start with fit.
1. Does It Know What a Solar Array Is?
This is the first test, and plenty of generic field-service software fails it. Open a job and look for places to record:
- Number of panels
- Mount: roof, ground mount or carport
- Stories and pitch
- Extras like bird proofing, critter guards and inspection
- Access notes like spigot location and roof access side
Then check where those details show up. They should appear under the address on the lists and on the tech's phone on every visit, not hidden in a notes field the tech has to scroll to find. Panel Count, Mount, Stories and Pitch: Panel Details in Solar Panel Cleaning Software explains why each one matters.
2. Do Recurring Cleanings Come Due on Their Own?
Your repeat customers are the business. Ask how the software handles twice-a-year homes and quarterly commercial arrays. You want plans set by days between visits, and a list or map that shows you what came due without anyone remembering. Bonus points if overdue cleanings stand out so they cannot get missed.
Also check what happens when a cleaning runs late. The next one should be counted from when the work was actually done, so a customer is not cleaned again too soon just because the calendar says so.
3. Can It Route Your Trucks?
Look for a dispatch board by day, a way to filter by truck, auto-routing from your shop, and the ability to set the order by hand. Then check that the order on the board is the order on the tech's phone. If you run homes on one truck and commercial arrays on another, try building both routes on the same day.
4. What Do Techs and Customers Get?
For techs: do they need special devices or an app store download? Can they log in with their own PIN? Do they see their jobs in order with navigation, panel details, access notes, photos and a Complete button that triggers billing?
For customers: do they get reminders they can choose, a way to see when the crew is coming, and a place to see invoices, pay and update their card? Customer-facing tools take calls off your phone, so they are worth checking closely.
5. How Does It Handle Money?
Check for invoices with line items and sales tax, a card on file, charging automatically on completion or on a schedule, online payment and past-due follow-up. If you have, or want, property owners with many buildings, check for one client with many addresses and one monthly statement covering every site.
6. How Hard Is It to Switch and Grow?
Ask how you get your customers in. A CSV import that places addresses on the map is what you want. Ask how long setup takes; for a small company it should be about a day, not weeks. And check that the same software works when you add a second truck, employees and office users, so you never have to switch again.
If you work outside the US, check that it supports your country and bills customers in your currency, and ask specifically about texting where you are.
Test It on Real Work
Demos are useful, but a trial is better. Use the free trial to import your real customers, add panel details for the next couple of weeks of work, build a real route and run a real day from the tech app. Watch for the moments you reach for a spreadsheet or a text thread; each one is a gap.
