The Yearly Solar Panel Cleaning Plan: An Easy Yes for Homeowners
Not every homeowner is ready to commit to two cleanings a year. Some have never had their panels cleaned at all and are not sure it matters. Some live where the panels stay fairly clean. Some just want to try you first. For all of them, the yearly plan is the easy yes: one cleaning a year, on a schedule, without them having to remember to call.
Where the Yearly Plan Fits
The Twice-a-Year Solar Panel Cleaning Plan: The Workhorse of a Residential Route covered the plan most residential routes are built on. The yearly plan sits one step below it. It is the plan you offer when twice a year feels like too much to the customer, and it is the plan that catches people who would otherwise stay one-time customers forever.
Think of it as a doorway. A yearly customer who sees good results, gets a clean reminder before every visit and never has to chase an invoice is a natural candidate to move up to twice a year later.
Setting It Up: 365 Days Between Visits
A yearly plan in SolarCleaningBossPro is a minimum of 365 days between visits. When the tech completes the cleaning, the count starts over. A year later, the address comes due and shows up on the Waiting List map with the other due work.
Because the count runs from the last completed visit, the plan drifts with you instead of fighting you. If last year's cleaning happened a couple of weeks late after a rainy spring, this year's due date moves with it. The customer still gets roughly a year between cleanings, and you never re-enter dates.
The panel details entered on the first job carry over too: panel count, roof or ground mount or carport, stories, pitch, extras and access notes. A year is a long time to remember where the spigot was. The card remembers for you.
Timing the Yearly Visit
Many owners like yearly cleanings to land in spring, after the heaviest pollen has fallen and before the long sunny days of summer. Others prefer late summer after the dust season. You do not have to force every yearly customer into the same month, and in a busy spring it is better if you do not.
The simplest approach: do the first cleaning when the customer signs up, then let the 365-day count carry it from there. If you want to shift a customer toward a better season, do one visit a little early or late and the count follows. Seasonal timing is covered more fully in Seasonal Timing for Recurring Solar Cleaning: Spring Pollen, Summer Dust and After Storms.
Selling the Yearly Plan
The pitch is short. “We will come back once a year, text you the night before, and charge the card on file when we finish. You never have to remember to call.” For a homeowner who barely remembered to call this year, that is the selling point.
Good moments to offer it:
- On the quote, as an option next to the one-time price.
- At the end of the first cleaning, while the customer is looking at the before-and-after photos.
- In a spring text to last year's one-time customers.
- On your website sign-up form, where the customer picks the service and the card is captured up front.
Keeping a Yearly Customer Warm
A year is long enough for a customer to forget your name. That is the main risk with this plan. A few things help:
- Take before-and-after photos on each visit. They are the reminder that the money was well spent.
- Let automated reminders go out before the visit. Night before, when they are next and arrived alerts, by text and email.
- Make paying invisible. A card on file charged at completion means no invoice sits unpaid for a month.
- Tag them. A Yearly tag (or your own name for it) lets you pull the list for an occasional check-in text.
Moving Yearly Customers Up
Some yearly customers will notice their panels look dirty again well before the year is up, especially after a heavy pollen season or a dusty summer. When a customer mentions it, or the tech notes heavy buildup on the second or third visit, that is the time to suggest twice a year. Change the days between visits on their job and the plan follows from the next cleaning.
Do not push. A yearly customer who stays yearly for ten years is still a good customer.
Make It the Default for New Homeowners
If you are not sure which plan to lead with for first-time customers, lead with yearly. It is the easiest yes and the easiest to upgrade later. For the full range of plans and how they come due on the Waiting List, see the recurring solar cleaning software page.
