The Solar Cleaning Tech's Day in Route Order: Working the Job List Top to Bottom

A good solar cleaning route does not zigzag. The truck leaves the shop, works its way out through one part of town, and comes back without crossing its own path. The tech should not have to figure that out at every stop. In SolarCleaningBossPro, the order is set once on the dispatch board, and the tech's phone shows the jobs in that order, top to bottom.

From Login to the First Card

Once a tech has signed in, which is covered in Logging In to the Solar Cleaning App: Company Login Plus a Personal PIN, the screen shows the day's jobs for their truck. The first card is the first stop. Each card shows the address with a navigation button, the panel details and the access notes. The tech does not search, sort or filter. They read the top card, drive, clean, complete, and move to the next one.

Where the Order Comes From

The order starts in the office. Recurring cleanings come due on their own on the Waiting List: homes on a twice-a-year or yearly plan, commercial arrays on a quarterly plan, each based on the minimum days between visits. The office picks the due jobs for a day, assigns them to a truck on the Scheduled List, and sets the route order.

There are two ways to set it. The office can drag jobs into order by hand, which works well when there is a reason to break the geographic flow, like a customer who asked for first thing in the morning. Or the office can auto-route from the shop, either Closest First or Furthest First. Closest First starts near the shop and works outward. Furthest First drives to the far end and works back toward the shop, which is handy when the last stops of the day should be close to home.

Whatever the office settles on, the tech sees the same order on the phone.

Why Route Order Matters More in Solar Cleaning

Every solar stop has setup and teardown. Ladders off the rack, hose run to the spigot or the water-fed pole hooked up, soft brushes out, fall protection on, then everything back on the truck. A wasted drive between stops is time on top of that. A route that doubles back across town can turn a full day into a day with one less roof.

Route order also matters for the weather. Many crews like to hit the steep two-story roofs early, before the panels heat up and before the afternoon wind picks up, and save ground mounts and carports for later. The office can build that into the order so the tech does not have to rethink the day at the curb.

When the Day Changes

Days change. A homeowner calls to reschedule. A commercial property manager asks for a bird cleanup today. A tech skips a stop because the wind came up. When dispatch moves, adds or removes a job, the tech's list follows. The tech does not need a new printout or a long text with the revised order.

When a tech has to skip, they tap Skip and note why. The skipped job drops out of their way and the office sees the reason. More on that in Start, Skip, Complete: The Three Buttons That Run a Solar Cleaning Day.

Working the List Well

A few habits make the list work better:

What Customers See

Route order is not just for the tech. In the customer app, homeowners can see their place in line on a live map: “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” Customers who chose the “when I'm next” alert get a text when they are up. That only works if the order on the phone is the order the tech actually drives, which is another reason to let the board set the order and keep the phone in sync.

The List Is the Plan

When the order lives on the board and shows on the phone, everyone is working from the same plan: the office, the tech and the customer. Techs spend their energy on clean panels instead of on map puzzles, and the office knows where the day stands without calling.
